Google Logo for Constantin Brancusi

Very proud to see Google created a special logo showing several art pieces of Constantin Brancusi to mark the moment of the 135th birth anniversary. He was a great Romanian artist born in a village just few kilometers away from Tirgu Jiu city. I am so proud, as this is the city where I also come from and spent my lovely childhood. It is a small city, but still nice, and it worths paying a visit there as you will find several art pieces signed by Constantin Brancusi:

On Wikipedia there are few more details on city of Tirgu Jiu.


The work of Constantin Brancusi was not appreciated by Romania while alive. He moved later and created most of his master pieces in Paris. In his testament he donated many pieces to his country, but the government at that time refused the donation not understanding the real value of his work, while France made him member of French Academy.

Siremis v2.0 released

Almost two weeks ago, Siremis v2.0 was released - this release brings a new look, a major-refactoring of the web interface for easy administration of your Kamailio SIP server v3.1.

Siremis is used also during Kamailio Advanced Training classes for management of the SIP server, a good opportunity to learn about Siremis itself.

Linux Tag - Berlin 2010

Before leaving for summer vacations, we had a serie of Kamailio SIP Router Events. If you missed the chance to be present, you can find few insights by browsing the project web page.

The annual devel meeting took place on June 8, 2010 - this time hosted by Fokus Fraunhofer Research Institute in Berlin, Germany - was a good opportunity for users and new developers to join the core developers and get into open debates. Click for detailed meeting minutes

Just after Devel Meeting, Kamailio had a presentation booth at Linux Tag 2010. Four days in a row open source community fans were able to meet and discuss with many of the project core developers about the current and future status of the project. Many visitors were surprised to find out that Kamailio is the SIP server enabling their every day calls, as clients of 1&1.



The event was powered by Kamailio Project, 1&1 and ASIPTO.

Back home from UC Expo 2010, London, UK

This week was the "London" week!

It started with Present and Future of SIP Routing hosted by Kamailio Project at SUN Microsystems premises in London.

SIP Router project is the common framework for development of SER and Kamailio (former OpenSER), hosting the unique source code. With lots of enhancements, some of those inherited through the two projects integration and other enhancements developed during the last year, Kamailio 3.0 - released January 2010 - pleasantly surprised many members from the users community by the great outcome of the unforking process.

A strong development team couldn't lead to anything else than to an outstanding unforked release of the best SIP server since 2001.

UC Expo 2010, March 10-11 at Olympia in London, proved to be a good meeting point for UK companies around VoIP, telecommunications and not only. UK is known as one of the leading markets for innovations in communications, VoIP and gadgets.

SIREMIS v1.0.0 released

A new major release of Siremis is available as v1.0.0. And of course it is ready to work with latest Kamailio(former OpenSER) 3.0 and SIP-Router.org.

Siremis enables straightforward management of subscriber profiles, least cost routing and load balancing rules, communication at runtime with the SIP server, displays monitoring charts.

This is what you will find new:

• presence service management – watchers, active watchers and presentity
• sip trace view – access sip_trace module records, highlight headers and group by call-id
• user location statistics charts – online user agents, supported SIP methods, contacts and nat related charts
• update of the core components to latest stable versions

Kamailio awarded Best of Open Source Networking Software 2009

It is officially: InfoWorlds'2009 Bossies has awarded Kamailio project within The Best of Open Source Networking Software 2009.

It is an honor for the project, its developers and its user community. A great team work!

Time to look a bit at the past. My first contribution started with xlog module back in 2003 when everyone was working for SIP Express Router (SER). In 2005 I co-founded OpenSER (renamed July 2008 to Kamailio). Today, the development of Kamailio is tied with SIP Router project, continuing the goals of delivering rock solid, performant and flexible SIP server.

SIREMIS v0.9.3 released

A new release of SIREMIS - the web management interface for Kamailio (OpenSER) and SIP-Router.org - is available for download today.

What brings new this release? Just the mainlines here:

Kamailio(OpenSER) 1.5.2 - preparing for Kamailio 3.0

Recently was released Kamailio 1.5.2 - a minor release fixing reported bugs since 1.5.1 and preserving configuration file and database compatibility.

In the mean time, the collaboration work for SIP Router (http://sip-router.org) proved to be very constructive and the results started to show up quicker than expected - the new core is almost ready. Based on the new core and including lot of new features added since 1.5 release, Kamailio 3.0 will make it to the community pretty soon.

Kamailio presence at AMOOCON 2009

Second day at AMOOCON 2009, Daniel Constantin Mierla - co-founder of Kamailio (OpenSER) Project - gave a talk about SIP-Router.ORG Project presenting the actual status, timeline to first beta release and the benefits the joint project brings to community and business around.
Good news is that thanks to good team-up between all members of the joint project, there is almost here the first beta release of SIP-Router.ORG - expected time 1-2 months.

SIREMIS Project Launched

SIREMIS open source project has been launched on January 21, 2009. It is intended to build web management interface for admins of VoIP platforms based on Kamailio (OpenSER) or SIP-Router.org project. Checking Romanian companies legal status

Joining European Union determined some improvements in the Romanian public organizations, as they became more transparent making available useful info on their websites.

It is possible now to check online the legal status of any company incorporated in Romania. This info is made available for free by Romanian National Trade Office at http://recom1.onrc.ro/cgi-bin/recom.cgi where you have to login as user=guest with password=guest and then search for the company name. If full name not known, searching for first letters will return a list of companies with similar names. Pay attention to companies with very similar names and avoid being fooled, by checking also the registration number of the company you are looking for. By law, the registration number of a company must be published on the web page of that company.
It is available only in Romanian language, but still a big step forward - there is now google language tools with Romanian support.

Thus you can avoid doing business with fake companies or companies that have legal issues, that cannot be anymore legally represented by any person (i.e. expired administrators), that are currently involved in a trial in court, that were declared as bankrupt a.s.o.

SIP Router - joint effort

Kamailio (Openser) team has joined the effort to build the SIP Router Open Source Project. A first meeting of the people around SIP Router took place in Karlsruhe at the premises of 1&1 on November 10, 2008.
Following the meeting approved goals, last month (November) we already had first Kamailio (Openser) module running on top of SER core. This was an important milestone reached even sooner than expected. A fully compatible version of SIP Router with both parents' projects is expected in the first quarter of 2009.

KAMAILIO (OPENSER) 1.4.2 released

Kamailio 1.4.2 was released on October 23,2008. This is a minor release of the branch 1.4, including bug-fixes. More details you find on the project page.

OPENSER project changed name into Kamailio on August 28, 2008 and starting with 1.4 the software is released using the new name, but previous releases will be maintained under the OPENSER name.

Sunday in Bucharest, Davis Cup

Yesterday there was a sunny autumn day in Bucharest. So I took advantage of the wonderful weather and went to encourage Romanian tennis players at Davis Cup. I could say I brought them luck :), in the end Romania defeating India 4-1.

Among the people present there, there was a special supporter Ilie Nastase, Romanian professional tennis player - world's no. 1 in '73. Nice to see him there.

KAMAILIO OPEN SOURCE SIP PROXY PROJECT

On 4th of August, one week after project renaming from OPENSER to KAMAILIO, one of the project team members announced that his interest is not anymore with the OPENSER project and that he started by himself a fork of OPENSER. Few days later, without prior notice, just one hour before the release KAMAILIO (OPENSER) 1.4.0, he claimed the project domain openser.org as this was registered on his name when the project started in 2005 and proceeded with redirection of the domain to its newly created fork of OPENSER project called opensips. Redirection takes place after a few seconds while displaying the message saying that OPENSER project has become opensips. Launching his project as a fork and claiming in the same time OPENSER has become his newly started project is breaking all the logic. As OPENSER founder and developer, I feel disgust for such attitude.

To avoid such problems in the future and also to allow for a healthy developing of the open source sip server KAMAILIO, comunity members discussions were started for creation of a project foundation.

OPENSER renamed to KAMAILIO

KAMAILIO is the new name for the SIP server known as OPENSER. A list with name candidates was created and the project board members vote decided the way to go forward under the name of KAMAILIO.

About the new name: there were people that found it strange, even ugly ... there were people that found it interesting and of a special flavor. It might be difficult to pronounce in English .. I am not sure. It is as simple as thinking to pronounce it in two parts kama ' ilio.

I wish all the best to the project! With a bit of our help - the founders, developers and management board members, but with the huge help of the community the project will continue to be at the top of open source SIP servers.

Google Translate for Romanian Language

I discovered that now Romanian language can be used with Google Translate. Nice feature! I have already given it a try and the translation from German, Spanish or English to Romanian was pretty accurate.

OPENSER Dinner in Barcelona

Tuesday evening, people around OPENSER project gathered at braseria "El Glop" in center of Barcelona.

As the event occured in the same week as the Asterisk SIP Master Class given by Olle E. Johansson and Daniel-Constantin Mierla, besides OPENSER comunity members I met Asterisk developers and users.

Orthodox Easter

In Romania most of the people celebrate this Sunday the Orthodox Easter. It's time when members of family gather together to celebrate the holy days. I wish to everybody to have a peaceful Easter and happy days with their families!

OPENSER Social Event in Barcelona

Two weeks left until the OPENSER social event in Barcelona tied up with OPENSER-Asterisk SIP Masterclass. Loved by many and preferred for summer holidays, Spain is a great country that does not let you get bored. Today I made the arrangements for the trip, so it's sure, I will be there! Looking forward to meeting people around OPENSER project.
